Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) in Production and Operation Management

Enterprise asset management is an information management system that connects all departments and disciplines within a company making them an integrated unit. EAM is also referred as computerised maintenance management system. It is the organized and systematic tracking of an organization’s physical assets i.e., its plant, equipment and facilities. EAM aims at best utilisation of its physical assets. It ensures generation of quality data and timely flow of required data throughout the organization. EAM reduces paper work, improves the quality, quantity and timeliness of the information and provides information to technicians at the point of performance and gives workers access to job specific information at the work site.

History

EAM arose as an extension of the Computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) which is usually defined as a system for the computerisation of the maintenance of physical assets.[2]

Enterprise asset management software

Enterprise asset management software is a computer software that handles every aspect of running a public works or asset-intensive organization. Enterprise asset management (EAM) software applications include features such as asset life-cycle management, preventive maintenance scheduling, warranty management, integrated mobile wireless handheld options and portal-based software interface. Rapid development and availability of mobile devices also affected EAM software which now often supports Mobile enterprise asset management.[3]
